Reverse description Crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread, bearing a globus cruciger on its breast. The imperial crown surmounts both heads at top center. The circular legend FRANCISCUS D·G·ROM·IMP·SEMP·AUGUSTUS surrounds the device, referencing Holy Roman Emperor Francis I, with the date 1762 appearing in the lower field between the eagle's talons.

Additional information

Hamburg's 32 Schilling denomination was introduced during the Seven Years' War, when the city's role as a neutral commercial hub put unusual pressure on its monetary system. Merchants demanded reliable high-value silver for settlement of trade accounts, particularly as northern European currency markets destabilized under wartime conditions. The three-year production window — 1762 through 1764 — corresponds almost exactly to the war's final phase and immediate aftermath.

The .750 fineness was a Hamburg convention that set these pieces apart from the finer Reichstaler coinage circulating alongside them.
