The 2012 Year of the Dragon kilo coin from Perth Mint is, in this instance, not a kilogram piece at all — the 10,001 gram weight places it among the largest single gold coins ever produced by any sovereign or quasi-sovereign mint. Perth has issued several of these extreme-format bullion pieces, but the Dragon edition was produced in a mintage of just one. A single coin, legal tender at face value under Australian law, with a gold content that dwarfs the annual output of many small refineries.
The Dragon holds particular commercial significance in Chinese bullion markets, driving Perth's lunar series to consistent sell-through that most Western mints cannot match.
