Zheng He's seven voyages between 1405 and 1433 took his fleet as far as the Persian Gulf and East Africa, yet Cambodia issued this coin over 570 years later as part of a wave of commemorative silver struck primarily for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. The series coincided with China's own major state celebrations of the voyages' 600th anniversary in 2005, a diplomatic moment Beijing used to project soft power across Southeast Asia.
