| Obverse description | Draped bust of King Jayavarman VII facing slightly downward, rendered in the style of the celebrated Khmer stone sculpture, occupying the central field. The upper legend reads KING JAYAVARMAN VII 1162 - 1201 along the rim, with the denomination 3,000 RIELS inscribed to the lower left of the effigy. A small rectangular mintmark or privy mark appears to the right of the bust. The lower legend KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA curves along the bottom rim, flanked by decorative dots. |

Zheng He's seven voyages between 1405 and 1433 took his fleet as far as the Persian Gulf and East Africa, yet Cambodia issued this coin over 570 years later as part of a wave of commemorative silver struck primarily for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. The series coincided with China's own major state celebrations of the voyages' 600th anniversary in 2005, a diplomatic moment Beijing used to project soft power across Southeast Asia.
