3000 Novih Dinara Chilandar

Issued in the final years of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, this coin commemorates the Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos — a Serbian Orthodox foundation dating to 1198, established by Stefan Nemanja and his son Sava, the latter later canonized as the patron saint of Serbia. The monastery remains technically within Greek territory but has operated under Serbian ecclesiastical jurisdiction for over eight centuries.

The "Novih" (New) Dinar series itself was born of necessity after hyperinflation in 1993 rendered the previous currency worthless — one of the most severe inflations ever recorded.
