Reverse description A large, detailed frontal portrait of a smiling ceramic head from the Totonac-Veracruz culture fills the central field, rendered in high relief after a celebrated pre-Columbian sculptural artifact. The figure wears an elaborate headdress with stepped geometric motifs and large circular ear ornaments, and displays the characteristic broad smile associated with the Smiling Figures (Caritas Sonrientes) of ancient Veracruz. The encircling legend CABEZA DE FIGURA SONRIENTE CULTURA DE VERACRUZ runs along the upper and lower periphery, separated by a raised dot at the base. The design is framed by a beaded border consistent with the obverse.
