Aanvullende informatie

Humaitá was the fortified river position where Paraguayan forces held off the allied armies of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay for nearly three years during the War of the Triple Alliance — a conflict that killed an estimated 60–70% of Paraguay's male population by its end in 1870. The ruins commemorated here are what remained of the church that served as the garrison's anchor point on the Paraguay River.

This coin belongs to a 1975 FAO-linked commemorative program issued under Stroessner's government, which used gold coinage almost exclusively for export revenue and collector markets rather than domestic circulation.
