Cameroon's numismatic program has been operated for decades almost entirely by the Monnaie de Paris and various European private mints producing collector issues with no meaningful domestic circulation. This piece is part of that ecosystem — a high-face-value franc-denominated coin struck for the international collector market, bearing a Shanghai theme that has no political or monetary relationship to Cameroon itself.
The face value of 3000 CFA francs is nominal fiction; the coin's production cost alone far exceeds it.
