Cameroon's modern bullion and collector gold program is administered through the Monnaie de Paris under licensing arrangements that have produced dozens of wildlife-themed issues since the 2010s. The Mandrill series targets the international collector market rather than domestic circulation — these coins are legal tender in name only, priced well above face value and distributed exclusively through European dealers.
The mandrill (*Mandrillus sphinx*) inhabits Cameroon's southern rainforests, though habitat loss has compressed its range significantly. CITES Appendix I listing since 1975.
