Reverse description Three-dimensional sculptural effigy of Euphrosyne depicted from the front as a full-length standing nude female figure in antique finish silver. The Grace is shown with arms outstretched in a graceful, balanced pose, her right arm raised and left arm extended, wearing a decorative armband on her upper right arm. Her hair is arranged in a classical upswept style and her facial features are rendered in fine detail. She stands atop a rectangular plinth base, the entire piece executed in the manner of a classical antiquity bronze statuette.

Additional information

The BEAC issues commemorative coinage on behalf of six member states — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a shared monetary union whose franc zone arrangement dates to the post-independence restructuring of the early 1960s. Euphrosyne is one of the three Charites of Greek mythology, the goddess of mirth and good cheer, an unusual subject for a central African monetary authority and almost certainly chosen by an external bullion program rather than any regional cultural imperative.
