The BEAC issues commemorative coinage on behalf of six member states — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a shared monetary union whose franc zone arrangement dates to the post-independence restructuring of the early 1960s. Euphrosyne is one of the three Charites of Greek mythology, the goddess of mirth and good cheer, an unusual subject for a central African monetary authority and almost certainly chosen by an external bullion program rather than any regional cultural imperative.
