The Libertad design — originally a Mexican series launched in 1981 — has been licensed and adapted by various mints seeking bullion product revenue for smaller issuing authorities. BEAC's adoption of it for this 3000 Francs CFA piece is a straightforward monetization exercise: the franc zone's commodity-dependent economies give the central bank limited options for generating numismatic revenue, and one-gram gold issues carry low production risk.
