3000 Forint St. Stephen's Hall

St. Stephen's Hall — the ceremonial hall of the Hungarian Parliament Building — was completed in 1902 as part of Imre Steindl's vast neo-Gothic complex on the Danube embankment, a project that consumed nearly two decades of construction and outlived its architect, who died blind before the building opened. The hall takes its name from Hungary's first king, canonized in 1083, whose crown remains the central symbol of Hungarian constitutional continuity to this day.

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank has issued this denomination in Nordic gold repeatedly for architectural and heritage subjects. At 20g and 37mm, the format is well-established for the series.

St. Stephen's Hall occupies the ceremonial heart of the Hungarian Parliament Building, completed in 1902 to designs by Imre Steindl, who went blind during construction and died the same year the building opened. The project ran from 1885 and was, at the time of completion, one of the largest parliament buildings in the world by floor area.
