The Military Memorial Park at Pákozd sits near the site of the Battle of Pákozd, fought on 29 September 1848 — the first significant Hungarian military victory of the revolution against Habsburg rule. The engagement lasted only a few hours before Austrian forces under General Jelačić requested a three-day armistice, which the Hungarians granted and which effectively ended the immediate threat to Pest. That ceasefire is widely considered the moment Hungarian revolutionary forces proved they could hold a field.
The park itself, opened in 1990, houses one of the largest open-air military collections in Central Europe.
