Reverse description A highly detailed depiction of a Chinese dragon rendered in high relief, its sinuous scaled body coiling dynamically across the central field with clawed limbs extended. To the right of the dragon, a flaming pearl ornamented with a yin-yang symbol is shown in the field, a traditional motif symbolising wisdom and good fortune. The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark appears to the right of the design. Along the lower border, the Chinese character '龍' (dragon) and the English inscription 'Year of the Dragon' are presented as the reverse legend, framed by a raised inner border ring.

Additional information

The 2012 Year of the Dragon issue was the heaviest and most valuable denomination in Perth Mint's lunar bullion series at the time of release, priced well above spot given the kilogram gold format. Dragon years consistently drive the strongest demand in Perth's lunar program, particularly among buyers in mainland China, Hong Kong, and the broader diaspora — a pattern the mint has exploited commercially since the series launched in 1996.

Mintage was capped at 30 pieces.
