China's large-format silver bullion issues of this period were produced at the Shenzhen Guobao Mint, which had emerged as the primary facility for high-weight commemorative pieces after the Shanghai and Shenyang mints proved less suited to the technical demands of 100mm planchets. The 2006 lunar dog issue was struck in a mintage of just 1,800 pieces — low even by the standards of the kilogram series.
Collectors should note that the wooden presentation boxes for this issue are notoriously prone to off-gassing, which has caused toning problems on a meaningful percentage of surviving examples.
