The 2005 kilogram Panda is one of the largest issues in the annual Chinese Panda series, which the People's Bank of China has produced continuously since 1982. Kilogram silver Pandas were struck in comparatively small numbers against the bullion issues, making them genuine rarities within a program better known for its accessibility. The 2005 issue is notable within the series for being the last year before China abandoned the fixed panda design policy — from 2016 onward, designs were legally required to change annually, a rule that had actually defined the series from its inception but was briefly and controversially suspended.
