Beschrijving keerzijde The denomination numeral 300 dominates the central field in large, bold characters, with REIS inscribed immediately below in smaller lettering and the date beneath that, all presented in a stacked vertical arrangement. The legend BRASIL arcs across the upper field. The entire central device is framed by an ornate collar of stylized Marajoara geometric interlace patterns, inspired by the pre-Columbian ceramic art of Marajó Island, which extends continuously around the inner border and echoes the scalloped coin edge. The overall design, engraved by Benedito de Araújo Ribeiro, reflects a deliberate nationalistic aesthetic drawing on indigenous Brazilian artistic heritage.

Aanvullende informatie

This denomination was part of the Vargas-era monetary reform series struck under the Estado Novo dictatorship, which Getúlio Vargas established by decree in November 1937. The series was designed by the sculptor João Turin, a Paraná-born artist whose modernist sensibility gave Brazilian coinage of this period a distinctly different character from the ornate republican issues it replaced.

Production ran across four years without major interruption, and examples are common. The copper-nickel composition was a deliberate cost-reduction measure as Brazil rationalized its minor coinage ahead of World War II resource pressures.
