The commemorative gold issue was authorized specifically to capitalize on international attention and generate hard currency through numismatic sales rather than circulation.
KM#250 was struck at the Bogotá mint. Relatively modest authorized mintages for Colombian gold issues of this period mean surviving examples in original condition are not plentiful on the secondary market.
