| 正面描述 | The central field features the royal emblem of Bhutan — two dragons in high relief flanking a central lotus and thunderbolt motif, all enclosed within a raised circular border. The legend KINGDOM OF BHUTAN arcs across the upper periphery in Latin characters, while the date 1996 appears twice flanking the emblem at the mid-field on either side. A Dzongkha inscription in Tibetan script runs along the lower rim beneath the central device. |

Bhutan's Royal Monetary Authority issued a series of lunar year commemoratives through the 1990s largely for the international collector market, with distribution handled primarily through overseas coin dealers rather than domestic channels. These pieces saw virtually no circulation within Bhutan itself.
KM#97 is part of that run. The 1996 rabbit year aligns with the Bhutanese calendar's own twelve-year animal cycle — the Wheel of Life — which shares the rabbit but assigns it different elemental and astrological weight than the Chinese tradition the coin's marketing leaned into.
