Bhutan has no table tennis tradition of any competitive note, and its Olympic participation has been limited to a handful of athletes since its 1984 debut — none in table tennis. These Royal Monetary Authority issues tied to the 2016 Rio Games were produced for the collector market, not circulation, and Bhutan's involvement is essentially nominal. The series was almost certainly contracted through a third-party minting program, a common arrangement for small nations seeking hard currency from numismatic sales.
