Surrounding the royal portrait, arranged in a circular composition within the field, are the obverse and reverse representations of four historic Spanish monetary units: a Real of the Catholic Monarchs struck at Burgos after 1497, a Tremissis of Recaredo I minted in Toledo between 586 and 601 AD, an As struck at Bilbilis between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, and a Peseta issued under the Provisional Government of 1869. The peripheral legend reads UNIDADES MONETARIAS ESPAÑOLAS FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA. |
