| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a jewelled crown, as modelled by Arnold Machin. The effigy occupies the central field with finely rendered hair detail. The circumferential legend COMMONWEALTH OF DOMINICA arcs across the upper field, while the independence date NOV. 3 1978 is divided to either side of the portrait at centre. The word INDEPENDENCE appears along the lower rim, commemorating Dominica's attainment of sovereignty. |
