| Beschrijving keerzijde | An extraordinarily detailed high-relief composition depicting the Dragon King at centre, his fearsome frontal-facing head rendered with fine scales and sweeping horns, flanked by his nine sons whose sinuous, scaled bodies spiral dynamically across the entire field amid swirling auspicious clouds and stylised waves. A flaming pearl is depicted below the central dragon, and a double-coin (shuang bi) auspicious symbol appears at the top of the composition. The nine dragon sons, each individually characterised, interweave in a dense, layered composition evoking traditional Chinese imperial decorative art and symbolising prosperity, wisdom, and good fortune. The field is antiqued to create dramatic contrast between the deeply sculpted relief elements and the recessed background. |
