Obverse description Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in right-facing profile, rendered in the Susanna Blunt portrait, with hair swept up and wearing a pearl necklace, occupying the central field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim and CANADA 300 DOLLARS along the upper right and right rim respectively. A stylized maple leaf privy mark incorporating the numerals 1812 appears below the effigy at the base of the field, commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812. The engraver's initials SB appear at the truncation of the bust.

Reverse description Highly detailed high-relief engraving depicting the naval engagement between HMS Shannon and USS Chesapeake on 1 June 1813, showing the two frigates locked together in close-quarters combat with sailors engaged in boarding action across the gun decks. The turbulent waters of Boston Harbour are rendered in the lower field between the hulls of the two vessels, while cannon smoke billows above the masts and rigging in the upper field. A rectangular cartouche at the top bears the bilingual legend THE LE SHANNON AND THE ET LE CHESAPEAKE. The commemorative date range 1813 - 2013 appears in a rectangular tablet at the lower rim, and the engraver's initials JMH are incused in the lower right field.
