Canada's Platinum Jubilee issue presented an obvious conceit the Royal Canadian Mint could not resist: commemorating seventy years on the throne with a coin struck in the metal that shares the anniversary's name. Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, making this one of the final issues authorized under her reign — production and release timelines for the jubilee series had already been set when she passed, leaving these coins straddling her death in an administratively awkward position few catalog entries bother to acknowledge.
