| Reverse description | The reverse displays the full Arms of Canada in elaborate high-relief detail, engraved by Eric Boyer. At the centre is the quartered Shield bearing the royal symbols of England (three passant guardant lions), Scotland (a lion rampant within a double tressure flory-counterflory), Ireland (the harp of Tara), and France (three fleurs-de-lis), with the base of the Shield charged with a sprig of three maple leaves. The Shield is supported by a crowned lion sinister holding a lance flying the Union Flag, and a unicorn dexter holding the royal banner of France, both standing upon a compartment adorned with a garland of the English rose, Scottish thistle, Irish shamrock, and French lily. Surmounting the Shield is a royal helmet with mantling, upon which rests the Crest: a crowned lion holding a maple leaf in its right paw, set on a wreath of red and white; the whole is encircled by an annulus approved by H.M. The Queen in 1994. The scroll below bears the Latin motto 'DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM' and the ribbon above the flowers reads 'A MARI USQUE AD MARE', with the denomination, country name, and date completing the reverse legend. |
