Perth Mint struck this 10-kilogram piece as part of its Lunar Series I program, which ran from 1996 through 2007 — the Year of the Pig completing the full twelve-year cycle. Each year's release was limited, and the final issues attracted the most speculative attention precisely because collectors who had followed the series from the beginning needed them to close the set.
The 203.2mm diameter required individual casting and finishing by hand; pieces of this scale cannot run through standard coin presses and are closer in production method to art medals than struck coinage.
