Obverse description The national coat of arms of Costa Rica occupies the central field, depicting three volcanoes rising from the sea with a sailing vessel in the foreground, flanked by seven stars and surmounted by a banner inscribed AMERICA CENTRAL. The arms are enclosed within an ornate shield with scroll supporters. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA arcs across the upper field, while the lower legend B.C.C.R.-TRESCIENTOS COLONES-1981 arcs beneath the shield. The fineness inscription LEY 0.925 appears in the exergue below the arms. The coin is struck in proof-like finish with a beaded border.
