| Obverse description | Central quartered shield of the Order of Malta, combining the white eight-pointed cross on black with the personal arms of Grand Master Manuel Pinto de Fonseca, set within elaborate baroque mantling and cartouche work. The shield is surmounted by the Grand Master's princely crown in high relief. The circumferential legend in Latin reads F · EMMANUEL PINTO · M · M · H · S · S · with the date 1757, identifying the issuer as Fra' Emmanuel Pinto, Grand Master of the Hospital and the Holy Sepulchre. The coin's broad flat field and finely milled edge reflect the high-quality production standards of the Order's mint at Valletta. |
