| Reverse description | The quartered coat of arms of the Order of St. John, combining the chequered Hompesch family arms with the plain white cross of the Order on a gules field, all within an ornate cartouche supported by two large palm fronds forming a wreath. The shield is surmounted by the Grand Master's crown. The date 17 98 is split to either side of the crown at the top of the field, and the denomination T· 30 (30 Tari) appears just below the crown flanking the shield. The circular Latin legend HOSPITAL· ET S· SEP·HIER· encircles the design, referencing the Order's full title as the Hospitallers of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. A small Maltese cross appears as a stops between legend elements at the top. |
