| Obverse description | Draped bust of Ferdinand von Hompesch, 71st Grand Master of the Order of St. John, facing left, wearing a coat adorned with the eight-pointed Maltese cross on the chest and a sunburst lion-head decorative element at the lower right of the truncation. The hair is worn in a short queue style typical of the late 18th century. The circumferential Latin legend reads F·FERDINANDVS HOMPESCH M·M·, denoting his name and title of Grand Master (Magister Militum), and the coin is bordered by a fine milled inner circle with a reeded edge. |
