Aanvullende informatie

The 2nd Issue of Charles I's Scottish 3rd Coinage falls squarely within the most politically combustible years of his reign north of the border. The National Covenant had been signed in February 1638, and Scotland was effectively in open defiance of royal religious policy by the time these coins were being struck at the Edinburgh mint. Whether that minting continued uninterrupted through the ensuing Bishop's Wars is a question the documentary record answers imperfectly.

Sp 5554 is scarce in any grade. The series itself was short-lived, and the Edinburgh mint's output during this period was modest by any accounting.
