| Beschrijving voorzijde | Equestrian effigy of King Charles I facing right, depicted in full armour astride a walking horse, holding an upraised sword in his right hand and reins in his left. The engraver's initial 'B' and a flower mark appear at the commencement of the outer legend, which is separated from the inner field by a beaded border. The composition, engraved by Nicholas Briot, displays a refined neoclassical style characteristic of his milled coinage for Scotland. The king wears a crown and a flowing sash, with ground line beneath the horse. |
