Obverse description Central device features the Portuguese royal arms — a crowned shield bearing the traditional armillary sphere — enclosed within a plain inner circle. The field surrounding the shield is heavily granulated, consistent with hammered copper coinage of the Goa mint. A floral or dotted decorative element appears at the right periphery. The overall composition is characteristic of the crude striking technique employed at the Goa mint during the reign of João VI.
