| 表面の説明 | Central field occupied by the crowned Portuguese royal arms, depicting the escutcheon with the five quinas (bezants) arranged in a cross pattern on a shield, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown rendered in a baroque style. The shield is framed by ornate foliate and scrollwork mantling typical of the hammered coinage produced at the Goa Mint during the reign of João V. The letters M and E appear in the field to the left and right of the crowned arms respectively, serving as mint or control marks. The overall design is characteristic of the crude but distinctive die-cutting workmanship of early eighteenth-century Portuguese colonial coinage. |
