Obverse description Central quartered shield of arms surmounted by a ducal crown, displaying the dynastic emblems of the della Rovere family: an eagle in the first quarter, armorial charges in the second and third quarters, and a barry field in the fourth. The crowned shield occupies the central field and is rendered in the characteristic relief of hammered Italian Renaissance coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, bordered by a beaded or rope-edged rim. The die work is bold and typical of the Urbino mint during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.
