Opmerkingen

Stedesand is a village in the Schleswig region — an area whose political status in 1920 was genuinely unresolved. The plebiscite dividing Schleswig between Germany and Denmark took place that same year, with Zone I (around Flensburg) voting to remain German in March. This 30 Pfennig note was issued into that precise moment of uncertainty, when municipal finances were strained and small-denomination Reichsmark coinage had effectively vanished from circulation due to wartime hoarding and post-war economic disruption.

Gebh. & Kunze printed a considerable volume of Notgeld for Schleswig municipalities during this period. Their Flensburg address placed them squarely inside the contested zone.
