Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicted in fine detail. A curved legend reading 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the face value '30 PESOS' appears in the lower field. The fineness and weight inscriptions 'AG 0.999' and '3 OZ' flank the arms, accompanied by two five-pointed stars on either side. The upper half of the border is framed by a rope motif, while the lower half features a band of indigenous geometric ornament.

Reverse description A portrait bust of Hatuey, the Taino chieftain and Cuban national hero, is rendered in high relief at the center of the field, with his name inscribed below the effigy. The curved legend 'V CENTENARIO 1492 1991' arcs along the upper periphery, commemorating the fifth centenary of Columbus's arrival in the Americas. The mint mark and issue date appear to the right of the portrait. A band of indigenous geometric ornament decorates the lower border, echoing the obverse design.
