| Obverse description | Printed in black and red-orange using a combination of lithography and chalcography techniques. To the left, an oval vignette encloses a figure of Saint Sebastian; to the right, a classical allegorical seated female figure is rendered in intaglio; a horse appears in the upper central area as a secondary vignette. Denomination and issuer text are arranged across the face with ornamental surrounds typical of mid-19th century American Bank Note Company production. |

| Obverse lettering | 30 NO BANCO DO BRAZIL se pagará ao portador TRINTA MIL RÉIS valor recebido. (Translation: In Bank of Brazil will be paid to the bearer Thirty Thousand Reis amount received.) |
| Reverse description | Printed in red-orange, the reverse is dominated by three large circular guilloche rosettes arranged horizontally, each enclosing the numeral "30" at its center within concentric rings of fine lathe-work. The two flanking rosettes are framed by additional ornamental guilloche borders with quatrefoil corner motifs, while a larger central medallion of intricate geometric lathe-work fills the space between them. Printer's imprint appears in the lower margin. |
