The musculature of the creature is carefully articulated, with the tail streaming behind and all four legs extended in a flying gallop. The abbreviated ethnic legend ΣΩ appears below the figure in the lower field. The composition fills the flan with dynamic energy characteristic of Syracusan coinage of the Timoleontic period. |
