| Obverse description | Central field features the Bavarian lozenge shield (fusily bendwise azure and argent), the distinctive diamond-pattern arms of the Wittelsbach dynasty, rendered in high relief and occupying the majority of the flan. The shield is surrounded by a plain inner ring, beyond which runs the circular Latin legend in capital letters separated by pellet stops. The obverse legend reads SIT. NOMEN. DNI. BENEDTM., an abbreviated devotional inscription meaning 'Blessed be the name of the Lord.' The coin's edge is bordered by a milled or beaded rim, characteristic of hammered Kipper-period coinage from Bavaria. |
