Hungary required its own separate coinage under Maria Theresa because the kingdom retained distinct constitutional status within the Habsburg system — the Hungarian Diet jealously guarded its minting rights, meaning Viennese monetary reforms could not simply be applied wholesale. This 30 Kreuzer denomination was struck at the Kremnitz mint, one of the oldest continuously operating mints in Europe, fed by the silver mines of Upper Hungary that had underwritten Habsburg finances for generations.
