| Opmerkingen |
Schwaz, once the silver-mining capital of Europe and among the wealthiest towns in the Habsburg world, was reduced to issuing 30-Heller Notgeld by 1920 — a small measure of how completely the war had inverted Austrian fortunes. This note is part of the broader Tiroler Notgeld phenomenon, driven by the acute coin shortage that followed the collapse of the monarchy and the severing of Tyrol's economic connections with the rest of the former empire.
Three signatories authenticate the note — the mayor, the city treasurer, and a "Geldwart," literally a money warden, a position that existed precisely because emergency currency required a dedicated custodian. Wagner of Innsbruck handled much of Tyrol's municipal printing work during this period.
