Köstendorf is a small parish commune in Salzburg, and like hundreds of similarly sized Austrian municipalities, it issued Notgeld during the postwar economic disruption when small-denomination coins vanished entirely from circulation. The 30 Heller value sits at the lower practical end of the emergency coinage substitutes produced by Salzburg-area communities in this period.

The Jaksc reference places this within the documented Austrian local issue corpus, but surviving examples from minor rural communes like Köstendorf are genuinely uncommon — print runs were small and redemption campaigns in the early 1920s removed most from circulation permanently.
