Imst's Heller notgeld series belongs to the massive wave of locally-issued Austrian emergency money that flooded the country between 1919 and 1921, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipalities scrambling to cover small-denomination shortages that Vienna could not address quickly enough. Deutsche Buchdruckerei in Innsbruck handled the printing for several Tyrolean communes during this period, which gives the series a regional coherence uncommon in notgeld issues further east.
The Jaksc/Pick "a" suffix indicates this is the earlier of at least two known variants — likely distinguished by a signature, date, or serial configuration rather than a design change.
