Austrian Gemeinde notgeld at the 30 Heller denomination, issued by the municipality of Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis — a small market town in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel region, north of the Danube. These municipal emergency issues proliferated across Austria from 1920 onward as the postwar coinage shortage bit hard into everyday small transactions, forcing hundreds of communities to print their own low-denomination scrip rather than wait for a central authority that was itself struggling with hyperinflationary pressure and administrative collapse.
The JPR0386d suffix indicates this is one of several distinct varieties within the Hofkirchen series — collectors should verify the specific design variant before attributing.
