Comments

Eisenerz is one of Austria's oldest iron-mining settlements, and its 1920 Notgeld issues were produced locally — unusual even by provincial Notgeld standards, where most small municipalities farmed out printing to Vienna or Graz. Theodor Huber's involvement as designer points to a deliberate local effort, the kind of civic pride that ran through the Notgeld movement in the early Styrian issues before inflationary pressures made artistic ambition impractical.

The 30 Heller denomination sits in an odd middle register — too small for significant transactions, suggesting it was intended to plug gaps in fractional change that the postwar coin shortage had made chronic by 1920.
