| Obverse description | Letterpress-printed Notgeld voucher in black and red on cream paper, with a bold blackletter text layout occupying the central field. The left margin carries three stacked decorative vignette panels in red and black — the uppermost with the numeral '30' in Gothic style, the centre with interlaced ribbon ornament, and the lower with a stylised floral or grain motif — while a matching '30' panel appears at upper right. To the right of the central text block, an engraved vignette of a standing Tyrolean peasant figure in period costume, rendered in fine cross-hatched lines, is set against a clouded landscape. A red underprint consisting of repeated text ('Dorfgastein') runs diagonally across the face, and a small floral tailpiece ornament appears at the foot of the central inscription. |

Dorfgastein is a small village in the Gasteiner Tal valley of Salzburg province, and this 30 Heller note is a product of the acute small-change crisis that gripped Austria in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy. With metal coinage effectively vanished from circulation and the new Austrian state unable to supply adequate fractional currency, hundreds of municipalities printed their own Notgeld — emergency money valid only within the issuing community. Dorfgastein's series was printed locally at Hofgastein by F. Fuchs, keeping the production within the valley.
Fritz Nürnberger designed the note, an unusual credit for such a minor issue.
