Dietrichschlag bei Leonfelden is a rural community in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel region, and this 30 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. Small denominations in metal had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted, and thousands of communities were left to print their own stopgap fractional currency.
F. Klima in Urfahr — a former independent town directly across the Danube from Linz, absorbed into Linz in 1919 — handled a considerable volume of local Notgeld commissions during this period. A village-level issuer from this far into the Mühlviertel uplands is among the less frequently encountered.
